About Us[]

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is the professional society for Aerospace Engineering; the society at WPI has an open membership and anyone with aero/astro interests is welcome to join.

Weekly meetings are held on Mondays at 5 p.m. in the Campus Center Mid-Century Room. Meeting topics vary from week to week, but there is always an update on space news.

Space News[]

The AIAA Space News is aggregated from sources including space.com, spacedaily.com, spaceflightnow.com, planetary.org, nss.org, marssociety.org, spaceref.com, nasawatch.com, universetoday.com, nasaspaceflight.com, and nasa.gov

The group is signifcantly oriented towards space topics. However, the group encourages members or prospective members to initiate discussion about other topics.

WARRIORS[]

AIAA's major work has been in the WARRIORS project, a joint venture with Aerospace Engineering MQPs. The project is the construction of a rocket using 3 booster rockets with electromagnetic seperation, springs to deploy the parachutes, and a camera. The launch is scheduled for February 18.

SGA[]

Other AIAA work has focused on obtaining funding from the Student Government Association, which required the Senate to approve amandments to its constitution. Said ammendments were approved after over a year of discussions. AIAA was successfully reclassified from a Class IV Organization to a Class I Organization in December 2005.
